Art historian Elizabeth Kahn Kaplan will talk about the famous Emanuel Leutze painting “Washington Crossing the Delaware” at the Westminster Presbyterian Church.
Kaplan's lecture, "Washington Crossing the Delaware: The Story Behind the Painting,” will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, at the church, 17 William St., Auburn.
During her lecture, Kaplan will show how noticed “errors” in the painting were actually choices made by the artist to create a work of great emotional impact.
Kaplan is a program facilitator at the Long Island Museum of American Art, History and Carriages in Stony Brook, and an educator at the nearby Three Village Historical Society in Setauket.
Her lecture is presented by the Seward House museum in Auburn through the support of the New York Council for the Humanities' Speakers in the Humanities Program, which has events all over the state.
