Scipio candidates plan gathering
The independent party slate of Team Scipio has scheduled a meet and greet for candidates starting at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 7, at the 34 Club on Route 34 in Scipio.
A barbecue will start at 4:15 p.m. and the Bunkhouse Boys will entertain with live music from 4 to 7 p.m.
Team Scipio candidates include supervisor Keith Batman, council candidate Keith Welch, and incumbent Justice of the Peace Brian Dugan.
They will be joined at the Scipio event by county district attorney candidate Mike Bass, who is running on the Democratic and Independence Party lines.
Deputies endorse Fricano, Axton
Cayuga County Sheriff's Office deputies announced Friday that they will be supporting Lon Fricano and David Axton in the upcoming election for county legislature seats.
The Cayuga County Sheriff's Police Association voted to endorse Fricano for the District 7 race and Axton for District 3 during its monthly meeting, according to a statement released by the organization.
Fricano, who has been endorsed by the Democratic Party, opposes incumbent George C. Fearon.
Axton, a Republican, in running against Thomas Weed.
Columbus Day flag raising on Monday
he Italian Heritage Society will mark Columbus Day with a flag raising ceremony at Auburn City Hall Monday.
Society honorees, government officials and veterans will attend the event beginning at 11 a.m.
