Planetarium to host talk about universe
Cosmologist Rachel Bean, from Cornell University's Astronomy Department, will examine “The Puzzling Life of This Universe” in an illustrated talk at 7 tonight, at the Southern Cayuga Planetarium, located immediately south of Poplar Ridge on the east side of Route 34B.
The program is accompanied by a stars-on-the-dome show, “What's Up!” If skies are clear, the nearby observatory will open after the presentation.
The event is free and open to all; interested attendees are advised to arrive 15 minutes early for the best seating. Doors close when the theater's 60 seats are filled.

School to host bottle, can drive
SS. Peter and Paul School will hold a bottle and can drive to benefit the school's fifth- through eighth-graders from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Oct. 6, at the SS. Peter and Paul Church's parking lot, 132 Washington St., Auburn.
Fundamentals of Supervision offered
A Fundamentals of Supervision: Focus on Public Sector & Non-Profit Organizations course will be offered 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday, Oct. 9 through Nov. 8, at the Business/Industry Center, Cayuga Community College, 199 Franklin St., Auburn.
This intensive 20-hour course is designed for those individuals who have recently been promoted to a supervisory position as well as for those who aspire to such a position. The program will be conducted combining lecture, discussion, individual and group exercises, films and cases. Topics include the characteristics of an effective leader, communication skills, the grapevine and office politics, problem solving and decision making, coaching and team building. Moravia school to present Cabaret
Moravia Central School Music boosters will present the MCS Cabaret at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 19, and Saturday, Oct. 20, at the high school cafeteria, South Main Street, Moravia. Students and local musicians will provide an evening of musical entertainment. General admission tickets are $10 and are available at Jennings Department Store in Moravia.
St. Joseph School to hold craft fair
St. Joseph School will be holding a craft fair from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, at the school, 89 E. Genesee St., Auburn.
The school is currently seeking crafters and vendors for the fair. Tables are $25 each.
