Greer leads Warriors to third straight league title

PULASKI - For the first time this season, Mike Greer didn't finish in first place in a race, but coming in second (18:35) didn't exactly harm the Weedsport boys cross country team, as the Warriors defeated Pulaski 26-29 on Wednesday to win their third Patriot National League title in as many years.
“We squeaked by out there, but it was nice to win another league title,” Warriors coach John Lawler said.

Jim Bos came in fourth (18:41) for the Warriors, Zack Fields took fifth (19:00), John Bos finished sixth (19:08) and Jordan Petrocci rounded out the team's top five in ninth place (19:24).

Weedsport is at Fabius-Pompey on Wednesday.

Cato-Meridian 20, Port Byron 41

Port Byron's Christian Cobb broke his own course record with a 17:14. Zac Leja came in seventh (21:05) for the Panthers while Eric Urwin was eighth (21:07).

Cato-Meridian's Joseph Mattice was second (18:53), Michael Davison tookthird (19:06), Carl Tausend finished fourth (19:07), Thomas Klaben was fifth (19:33) and Denzer Campbell placed sixth (19:59).

The Panthers host Pulaski, Wednesday.

GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY

Pulaski 15, Weedsport 50

Alyssa O'Bryan took ninth for the Warriors (23:08), Erin Daly was 10th (23:10), Ashley Edmunds came in 12th (24:12), Nicole Greer was 13th (24:57) and Katie Scarbrough was 15th (25:46).

Cato-Meridian 24, Port Byron 37

Cato-Meridian was led by Aubrey Campbell in first (22:13), Angelina Argese in fourth (23:20), Kristin Roberts in fifth (23:36), Natasha Falter in sixth (24:14) and Margaret Harrigan in eighth (24:27).

The Panthers were led by Katie Wyckoff in second (22:17), Felicia Darrow in third (22:51) and Amanda Vitale in seventh.

The Panthers host Pulaski, Wednesday.

BOYS GOLF

Baldwinsville 193, Auburn 211

Ryan May led the Maroons with a 38, Bobby Gage shot a 42, Harrison Davenport carded a 43, Tim Daniels had a 43, Sean Hogan had a 45.

James Cutillo shot a 46.

The Maroons (12-4 overall, 10-2 in league) participate in the Section III qualifier today at Lafayette Hills Country Club.

BOYS SOCCER

Marathon 4, Union Springs 0

Rob Ferro had nine saves for the Wolves.

Also playing well were Ryan Lawson, Brandon Jackson, Mark Ryan, Justin Lyndaker, Nick Shrimpton and Jason Schenck.

Union Springs (1-10-2 overall, 1-4-2 in division) heads to Groton, Friday.

GIRLS SOCCER

Southern Cayuga 3, Spencer-Van Etten 3

Megan Lawrence scored twice for the Chiefs and Lianna May provided two assists.

Freshman Emily Heslop scored her first career varsity goal on a pass from May.

Ashley Bergenstock had two saves while the defense was led by Miriam Larson-Koester and Nicole Hoey.

FIELD HOCKEY

Baldwinsville 2, Auburn 0

Sarah Reece had 11 saves for the Maroons while Julie Barrett played well defensively.

Auburn hosts Cicero-North Syracuse, Friday.

GIRLS TENNIS

Fayetteville-Manlius 7, Auburn 0

The Maroons (8-3) host Liverpool today.
