War in Iraq should teach us not to start one with Iran

Thursday, October 4, 2007 9:57 AM EDT

I am disturbed at the rising volume of rhetoric from Washington that suggests we should be attacking Iran.
Haven't we learned anything from this disastrous intervention in Iraq? We have the strongest military in the world, but it will be of little value if world opinion is against us.

We should be reaching out to Iraq's neighbors, including Iran, and enlisting their help in resolving problems in the Middle East.

There is no justification for refusing to talk to countries we disagree with. Children refuse to speak with anyone but their friends. Adults should know better.

Senator Lieberman and the other warmongers in Congress and the Bush administration should stop rattling their sabers and start listening to public opinion.

" Do you really think this is only about oil?? Let's say we befriend the Sunni's-they control Iraq-do you believe we will get a "best-friend country" discount?? Agreed the Iran government is not liked by it's citizen's-but to PARADE his missiles thru the street isn't saying "look what we have?"-the man is proclaiming he is one to take control of the middle east. Naming Israel first. Last month were you not a "protector" of Israel? "

" Chris, what the hell0's your problem? Are you really as MAD (as in sick-crazy) as these idiots who want to control Iran's oil too?! Haven't seen enough blood yet? Haven't frittered away enough of the next three generations' monies and budgets? You're sicker than I thought, man! Here's a newsflash for you--Ahmedinajad doesn't have the power to control the war policy of Iran--he's widely ridiculed and mistrusted even in his own country. This whole "nuclear" thing is just political gamesmanship. Going to war with Iran means IRAN WINS from DAY ONE! "

" So here is how liberals like Karl and Murray Lynch avoid debate on the war for those keeping score: * You’ve Never Served: You’re a chickenhawk so they ignore the merits of your argument. * You Did Serve: You’re still a chickenhawk for not serving now so they ignore the merits of your argument. * You Are Serving: It’s illegal for you to speak about the war so they ignore the merits of your argument. "

" Ms. Galbraith, you want to reach out to a leader who wants to commit genocide, he talks about it and is actively working at it thru Iran's nuclear program. No amount of talking is going to change his mind or the minds of any of the other Muslim radicals. There is an old saying (with regard to your statement that public opinion is correct in this instance) that what's right isn't always popular and what's popular isn't always right. "
