Police said a dispute between a mother and daughter over a hamburger ended with the mother being slashed with a box cutter.
Auburn City Police charged Chelci E. Ricks, 17, with second-degree assault and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon after responding to 78 Wall St. Wednesday afternoon.

Police said Ricks refused to share a hamburger with her mother, tentatively identified as Margarita Ramirez, and that Ramirez was slashed when she raised her hand in self-defense against a box cutter wielded by Ricks.

Police said Ramirez refused medical treatment and was somewhat uncooperative with police. Police said Ramirez may have initially provided a false name and that her true identity was still under investigation Thursday afternoon.

Ricks was arraigned in city court and remanded to the Cayuga County Jail without bail.

" Have you ever given a thought into another "non disciplined child" gone wrong! The Government has our hands tied as parents and the kids know this and are taught it in school. What ever happend to "the good old days and the strap" that taught children true right from wrong.... I have a child who is violent and for the first three times of calling the law i learned that they didnt believe a child was doing it to me. Believe me after proven it by continuing to call and showing the child was the cause. It was only then i was able to get the help for the child. Two trips in front of a local judge and he too could see that I as a parent was the Victim, not the child. Keep in mind in public and in front of people the child i speak of was the very best child anyone could ask for and she was a straight A student as well...but when at home she changed as soon as she walked into the doorway of our home. So take into consideration that it may be the child who is wrong and not the mother....but their are only two people who know the truth and thats the child and mother! Its up to the LAW to determine the truth. "

" I can see how articles like this can get blown out of proportion. However, I happen to think this is just another case of family togetherness if you truly read between the lines. My interpretation after reading this article is that the young gal was doing a school project (which explains the box-cutter close by) while her mom fixed her a hamburger. In the spirit of Halloween, the mom then went and put on her Hamburglar costume and it all went downhill from there. Perhaps the young gal got scared and picked up the closest thing she could find. I'll bet this is just another case of good, clean, healthy fun gone awry. "
