Why are we wasting money trying to save the Schine?

Wednesday, October 3, 2007 9:45 AM EDT

Am I the only person that wonders about the mentality of spending all this money on the old Schine Theater? I am old enough to remember spending many hours there watching movies and that was when movies were worth seeing. It was a very beautiful place, but the keyword here is “was.”
After all the money already spent, now they say $3 million more and that is just a guess. We could have built a brand-new theater for that amount of money. Why would you pay millions for a dead horse when you could buy a healthy herd for less.

We spent a lot of money on Falcon Park and at the time it was done, they said they could have concerts there and other activities, but I haven't seen any, have you? Let's quit throwing money away and spend it on something worthwhile. Didn't trying to save a dead tree teach us anything?

" If you can't see the value of Falcon Park to the quaulity of life in Auburn then you have one foot in the grave or you are brain dead. "

" The money is coming from grants and the flow of money is limited. They have made a lot of progress and it will be finished. It would to foolish to stop now as a lot of money has been spent. The purpose is not to build a movie theater and if you could see beyond the end of your nose you would see what an asset it would be to the downtown area. It could be a performing arts and community center. Beautiful theaters have been restored all over the nation and they have been key to rejuvenating the downtown area. Don't keep making the mistakes of generations past and tear down more of the heart of the downtown area. Try to look forward unlike urban renewal did years ago. "

" There is other people that will agree with you. I sure do, You hear "It won't cost us anything. We will get a state grant" The money comes from some where. First in my mind is the taxpayers. "
