Abby Valentino scored on a one-on-one with Southern Springs goalie Katie Smith with 7:30 left in overtime as the Auburn field hockey team defeated Southern Springs 2-1 on Monday.

Valentino scored the regulation goal for the Maroons and Carrie Nash had one assist.

Sarah Reece finished with five saves.

For Southern Springs, Molly Clifford scored on an assist from Elizabeth Rollo. Smith finished with nine saves.

Southern Cayuga 13, Newfield 0

Sean Driscoll scored three goals and Andrew Dean added two goals for the Chiefs.

Also playing well for Southern Cayuga was Tony Brown-Rejman (one goal, two assists), Bill Rejman (two goals), Hunter Smith (one goal), Joe Rocker (one goal), Adam Mandel (one goal, one assist), Mike Miller (one goal), Ed Richter (one goal), Jason Herford (one assist), Joe Troy (one assist) and Casey Underwood (two assists).

Lewis Morse and Brian Littlejohn played well and shut the door defensively for the Chiefs.

Southern Cayuga (9-2-1 overall, 5-0-1 in conference) hosts Moravia Wednesday.

GIRLS TENNIS

Auburn 4, West Genesee 3

With the overall score tied 3-3, Sam Bruno and Jamie Bruno needed two tiebreakers to win fourth doubles 7-6 (7-3), 7-6 (7-4) and give the Maroons a dramatic victory.

Also winning for Auburn was Claire Minnoe in first singles (6-4, 6-1), Delaney Scollan in second singles (6-1, 6-1) and Hailey Roth in third singles (6-0, 6-2).

Auburn (7-2) travel to play Liverpool Thursday.
