MWR to hold youth waterfowl hunt
The Montezuma Wetlands Complex will host a youth waterfowl hunt for two days in October.
Children ages 12 to 15 will be allowed to hunt with a parent or guardian Saturday, Oct. 13 and Sunday, Oct. 14. Both youth and adults must have a state hunting license and Harvest Information Program registration number.
The complex will only be open to young hunters for that weekend to give beginners a less-competitive chance to try the sport. Hunters' names must be submitted on a post card sent to Montezuma Wildlife Refuge, 3395 Route 5 and 20 East, Seneca Falls, by Friday, Oct. 5.
A waterfowl identification class is slated for 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Montezuma Wildlife Refuge Center, Route 5 and 20, Seneca Falls. Pre-registration is required by calling 568-5987.
For assistance or to volunteer as an instructor, call Tim Noga at 252-1321 or send an e-mail to habitat@bci.net.
School asks parents to walk with students
On Wednesday, Oct. 3, St. Joseph School is participating in Walk Your Child to School Day. Students are encouraged to walk to school that morning with their parents or guardians. If that is not possible, all students can use the St. Joseph School Walking Trail in the playground area of the school.
This year's Walk Your Child to School Day is being sponsored by the Eat Well Play Hard Coalition with support from the Cayuga County Health Department Eat Well Play Hard grant funded through the state Department of Health.
