The Weedsport boys cross country team finished seventh out of 18 teams at the McQuaid Invitational at Genesee Valley Park in Rochester on Saturday.
By finishing higher than Oakfield, Ala., who came in 12th, and Maple Grove, the Warriors are likely to improve on their No. 5 state ranking in Class D.

Mike Greer finished best for Weedsport, in 27th place (16:59). Jim Bos placed 42nd (17:11), Jordan Petrocci was 47th (17:19), John Bos came in 52nd (17:24) and Zack Field was 56th (17:31).

“This team has been having quite a year,” Weedsport coach John Lawler said. “They're for real, every kid has been working very hard.”

Weedsport gets its biggest challenge of the season when the team travels to Pulaski on Wednesday.
