The New York State Nurses' Association turned out today to a lively discussion of a bill requiring state licensing of all nurses practicing for hire. It will define what constitutes the practice of nursing and set up a system of penalties to be imposed upon those found practicing without a license.

Mrs. Eleanor Roosevelt said yesterday the “big news” in Europe, the Middle East and Russia was the Little Rock, Ark. school integration crisis.

STERLING - The Sterling Commission will be keeping score on who gets to sell the 1,100 acres the county is putting on the market. Monday the commission agreed to accept a plan of action submitted by the county Planning Department for choosing who gets the sales contract for the Sterling Project Area. The land is part of 2,800 acres the county and town purchased from Rochester Gas & Electric in 1994 for $3 million.

AUBURN - The animal cruelty trial against the Gilfus

Family of Sarr Road in Mentz is scheduled to continue today with jury selection followed by opening statements. On Sept. 3, Richard Gilfus Sr., 61, Patricia, 60, Richard Jr., 36, John, 28, and Lisa, 31, pleaded guilty to some counts and had others adjourned in contemplation of dismissal. The defendants admitted that they had failed to provide sustenance to all of the animals at their farm and petting zoo.
