A recent writer quoted from the Bible Book of James 2 Verse 21 and 25: “Was not Abraham our father justified by works when he offered Isaac his son on the altar?” and “Likewise was not Rahab the harlot also justified by works?” These verses are 100 percent correct and true of these Old Testament saints.
The reason Abraham and Rahab were justified by their works is found in verse 23, sandwiched between verses 21 and 25. “Abraham believed God and it was accounted to him for righteousness.” Likewise Rahab. Her statement of faith in Jehovah can be found in Joshua Chapter 2. But remember, these Old Testament saints are servants in the household of God.
New Testament saints or believers are referred to as children #- sons and daughters #- in the household of God. We are part of the family of God, not mere servants. We are also spoken of as kings and priest; as a royal priesthood and a holy nation. Why? Because we have a better and greater covenant than the Old Testament saints, through the Blood of Jesus. It all starts by receiving Jesus as our Savior and Lord. Then studying the New Testament epistles or letters, to learn who we are, what we have and what we can do in Christ Jesus.
All to often, the reason the Christian Church is ridiculed and we Christians are called hypocrites is because we have failed to study the New Testament.
We dust off a pew seat one hour per week; maybe! The remaining 167 hours we concern ourselves with the affairs of life and absorb the world's wisdom. No wonder our faith is weak and anemic.
We need to make time to study God's Word, showing ourselves approved.
