Parochial-school parents pay taxes like everyone else

Friday, September 28, 2007 11:30 PM EDT

In response to the item printed in your “Citizen Say” column by “forrest” on Sept. 19 concerning a parent's complaint at the lack of transportation for children attending SS. Peter & Paul School:
This person wrongly assumes that people who choose to send their children to parochial schools of any denomination are automatically wealthy and “probably don't pay school taxes.”

I have been here many years and have never defaulted on paying school taxes, and in addition, like many other Catholic parents who send their children to parochial schools, have paid for the privilege. Obviously, “forrest” is unaware of the discrimination practiced throughout the U.S.

If this happened to any other group, one would never hear the end of it.

I hope that you will be good enough to set the record straight.

" It is fine if a parent wants to send his or her child to a parochial school to be brain washed. However, However, he or she should also have to pay the cost of transportation to this school. Can I get an Amen from the audience? "

" The public schools providing transportation for relious affiliated schools is a travesty and the policy should be challenged in court. "
