Mattress, blanket drive starts today
A mattress and blanket drive will be held from 8 a.m. to noon today for the newly forming Chapel House Homeless Shelter. The drive will be held in the Holy Family school gym on North Street in Auburn.
Items needed are twin size mattresses only and any size blankets. Gently used items but nothing soiled will be accepted. Arrangements for pickup can also be made by calling Denise at
252-3946 after 6 p.m. or on weekends or by e-mail at deniseb132@yahoo.com.
Church to host dish-to-pass supper
Auburn First United Methodist Church will hold a dish-to-pass supper at 5:30 p.m. tonight, at the church, 99 South St., Auburn. Following the dinner at 6:30 p.m. the Revs. Teri and Evelyn Erbele will talk about their mission experiences in Latvia, Lithuania and Russia.

Minister to discuss atheists in sermon
“God and the Atheists” will be the subject of guest minister, Dr. Richard Gilbert, at Sunday's 10:30 a.m. regular morning service, Sept. 30, at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Auburn, 607 N. Seward St.
Gilber's talk will focus on God in the daily news #- from Richard Dawkins' “The God Delusion” to Mother Theresa's “dark night of the soul.” How does this conversation speak to us?
Gilbert is a retired Unitarian Universalist minister from Rochester and is the author of “Building Your Own Theology.” He earned his doctor of ministry degree from Colgate Rochester Divinity School.

Blessing of the Graves held Sunday
The annual Blessing of the Graves for St. Bernard's Cemetery in Scipio Center will take place at 1 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 30, at the cemetery. The Rev. Richard Shatzel will officiate at the blessing.
And the annual Blessing of the Graves for Our Lady of The Lake Cemetery in King Ferry will be held Sunday, Oct. 7, following the 10:30 a.m. Mass at Our Lady of the Lake Church. The Rev. Richard Shatzel will officiate at the blessing.
Olde Tyme Fairto offer treats
The First United Methodist Church Olde Tyme Fair and chicken barbecue will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, at the church, 99 South St., Auburn.
The fair has been a favorite of the community for more than 30 years. Again this year, there will be crafts, plants, white elephants, Helluva Good Cheese, a large assortment of books, antique dealers and baked goods including the famous apple pies, jams and jellies and candies. The chicken barbecue starts at 11 a.m., and the fair's kitchen will offer homemade soups, hot dogs, chili, sloppy joe's, pumpkin pudding, salt potatoes, sandwiches and more. Visitors may eat in or take out.
Profits from the fair will help with missions and maintenance of the church property on the corner of South Street and Fitch Avenue in Auburn.
Latest ‘Veggie Tales' movie to be shown
The Auburn Alliance Church will show “Bob's Vacation” and the newest Veggie movie, “The Wonderful Wizard of Ha's,” at 7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 7, at the church on North Seward Avenue in Auburn.
Popcorn and drinks will be served and free “Veggie” items given away. There is no charge to attend. To learn more, call 834-6852.
