St. Francis of Assisi Church is celebrating its 100th anniversary. More than that, it's celebrating the journey the church has taken through that century.
“It's a milestone and also (time to be) reflective of the hard work and dedication. To have really nothing and to make something, the church, grounds, a great shrine,” said John Camardo, chair of the parish council.
“Hopefully, my children will be able to build on that, and their children,” he said. His children mark the fifth generation of his family involved in the church.
As they look to the future, worshippers will celebrate their church's past.
Church officials welcome present and past parishioners, former St. Francis School students, and anyone else who is interested to attend a rededication Mass and ceremony at 9:30 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 30 at the church, 299 Clark St., Auburn.
There will be a procession honoring the church's patron, St. Francis of Assisi. Following this will be a brunch in Fr. Nacca Hall.
Anyone interested in attending the free brunch should pick up a ticket from the rectory as soon as possible.
Also, the church will also host a gala reunion dinner dance at 5 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 4, at the Holiday Inn, 75 North St. in Auburn.
Tickets cost $25 and must be purchased by Tuesday, Oct. 30. They are available at Paul's Barber Shop, Tesoro Apparel, Sam's Shoe Store, Lewis', Speno Music, and at the rectory office.
The dance will feature music by two music groups: Sons of Frank (as in musician Frank Mucedola) and Rocco and Paolo.
