The Downtown Auburn Business Improvement District tapped a former employee to head the organization Tuesday. The nonprofit organization named Daniel Schuster executive director effective Oct. 1. He will replace Michele Tarnow, who resigned in August after holding the job for a few months.
Schuster was assistant director of BID for four years before resigning earlier this year after the departure of longtime leader Sandra Craner. He currently works for Options for Independence.

As a Cayuga County Legislator representing Auburn, the Democrat chairs the Planning and Economic Development Committee. A press release from BID indicated Schuster's previous experience with the organization and knowledge of business made him a good candidate for the position.

" Is there a conflict of interest here -- does BID ever request money from the county? "
