AUBURN - Morton M. Kahn bought his house when he was 27 years old. That was in 1950, when he could keep up the house, mow the lawn and do yard work. “I could perform all the functions," he said. "But when you get to your mid 70s, that's when you need to look for other options for living.” Like a lot of his friends, Kahn spends each winter in Florida. He returns to Union Springs each spring. He's hoping a proposed development in Auburn might cater to his needs as a middle income retiree. Purcell Construction Corporation, which runs several retirement communities, is looking to build a retirement community off Bluefield Road.

AUBURN - The Cayuga County Safe Schools/Healthy Students Partnership has received a $100,000 Drug-Free Community grant, securing more federal money for local programs designed to integrate community and school resources for “safe school partnerships.” The program, one of just 77 nationwide, was established less than two years ago when the Auburn School District was awarded a $6 million three-year Youth Violence Prevention grant from the federal government.
