Baldwin auctioning off day on campaign trail
William Baldwin is auctioning a day on the campaign trail with Elizabeth Edwards, wife of presidential hopeful John Edwards, and a private falconry lesson with Robert Kennedy Jr. to raise funds for his mother's foundation.
Baldwin personally lined up the VIP packages for an online auction to benefit The Carol M. Baldwin Breast Cancer Research Fund, which his mother established in 1996 after surviving breast cancer. Baldwin and his brother Alec Baldwin sit on the board of the foundation, which provides grants to researchers.
Garner says daughter Violet is ‘pretty awesome'
Jennifer Garner, who stars in the upcoming film, “The Kingdom,” says she's grateful that she can balance her career with motherhood.
“My job is great to have as a mom,” she tells Marie Claire magazine in its October issue. “I get to take long breaks and then work hard in a really concentrated way.”
Garner wed Ben Affleck in June 2005. Their daughter, Violet, will be 2 on Dec. 1.
“She's pretty awesome. We're in that sweet spot before the ‘terrible twos,”' the 35-year-old actress says. “We definitely wonder what it would be like to have another - hopefully, knock on wood, someday.”
Garner nursed Violet during the filming of “The Kingdom,” co-starring Jamie Foxx, which opens in theaters Friday.
Durning to get lifetime achievement award
Charles Durning will be honored for lifetime achievement by the Screen Actors Guild.
Durning, 84, will receive the award for fostering the “finest ideals of the acting profession” during the 14th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards show Jan. 27, the guild said Monday in a statement.
“Throughout his career, he has epitomized the art and grace of acting and brought something special to every role,” SAG President Alan Rosenberg said in a statement. “He is above all things a great actor with the talent to which we all aspire: the power to create indelible characters.”
Durning received Oscar nominations for his roles in “To Be or Not to Be” and “The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas.” His movie credits also include “The Sting,” “Dog Day Afternoon,” “Tootsie” and “O Brother, Where Art Thou?”
During World War II, Durning was seriously wounded as a member of the first wave of soldiers to land on Omaha Beach during the D-Day Normandy invasion on June 6, 1944, according to the guild statement.
He was taken prisoner during the Battle of the Bulge and was one of a few survivors of the attack on American POWs at Malmedy, Belgium.
Durning was honored with three Purple Hearts and a Silver Star.
