It's that time again for flu shots
Regional Medical Services will offer flu shots for seniors. Seniors must bring their Medicare Cards to the clinic.
For those covered by Medicare B, the immunizations are billed at no cost to Medicare. For those not covered by Medicare, a flu shot is $30 and Pneumonia is $45. Anyone belonging to a Medicare HMO must pay for the vaccine at the clinic and will be given an insurance form to submit to your HMO or other insurance carrier.
The following clinics are scheduled locally:
€ 1 to 4 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 2, Elbridge Town Hall, Route 31, Jordan
€ 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 5, Elbridge Big M, 277 E. Main St., Elbridge; 689-3781
€ 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 9, Skaneateles Town Center, Route 321, Skaneateles; 685-5978

Nominees sought for doc of the year
New York State Academy of Family Physicians is seeking nominations for the 2008 Family Doctor of the Year. The only requirements are the physician must be in good standing in the New York State Academy of Family Physicians and provide outstanding service to their patients with a devotion to family practice.
Individuals are encouraged to send letters of nomination to the NYS Academy describing why their doctor should receive the award.
Letters should be sent by Nov. 10, 2007, to New York State Academy of Family Physicians, 260 Osborne Road, Loundonville, NY 12211.
Forum to focus on suicide prevention
The third annual Community Forum on Suicide Prevention will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 2, in the Auburn Memorial Hospital auditorium.
The keynote speaker will be Melissa Middlebrook, an advocate and survivor of a family member's suicide. Dr. Riaz Syed, Cayuga County Mental Health Clinic Psychiatrist and Cayuga County Sheriff David Gould will also speak. Guy Cosentino, Stardust Foundation executive director, will moderate the forum, sponsored by Cayuga County Suicide Prevention Taskforce.
Red Cross seeks local volunteers
The Cayuga County Chapter of the American Red Cross is looking for interested volunteers in helping our community to be prepared for emergencies to become Health & Safety Instructors.
A specialized training, FIT or Fundamentals of Instructor Training, will be held Oct. 25, 26 and Nov. 2. There will be a special meeting for instructors from 4:30 to 5:40 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 4, at the chapter. This will be an opportunity to meet current instructors and to learn about being involved with the Red Cross.
