Youth swim lessons available at YMCA

Swim lessons are now available for ages 6 months to 5 years beginning Sept. 10 at the Auburn YMCA.
Lessons for youth ages 6 to 15 are held once a week and are 45 minutes long.

The YMCA offers Polliwog lessons for beginners, Guppy classes for intermediate beginners, Minnow for advanced beginner, Fish for intermediate swimmer, Flying Fish for advanced swimmer and Shark for the swimmer (formally known as junior lifesaving).

AHS boys basketball camp begins Sept. 17

Auburn Maroons Monday/Wednesday Basketball program will begin Sept. 17 at Auburn High School.

The Program is open for any boy who resides in the Auburn school district.

Monday racquetball league begins soon

The Auburn YMCA-WEIU Monday night racquetball league starts on Sept. 10. Players of all levels are welcome to play in this five week league.

The fee is $15 for Y-members and $30 for the general public. Registration is limited and entrants will be accepted on a first come basis.

Hockey clinics being held in Skaneateles

There will be Skaneateles hockey clinics at the Skaneateles Community Center on select dates for the following groups:

Mites: Sept. 9, 16, 23, 30

Squirts and Peewees: Sept. 5, 12, 19, 26

Mike Lowe, Auburn varsity hockey coach will instruct the Peewee group and Mike Major will instruct the squirts. Dan Babbage, Mite “A” Coach will be the lead instructor for Mites.

Hockey club in need of qualified coaches

The Auburn Hockey Club is looking for qualified volunteers to coach youth hockey for the 2007-08 season.

Tickets available for PGA Tour event

The Cayuga County Arts Council is selling tickets to a PGA Tour Event to be held at the Turning Stone Resort from Sept. 17 to 23.

Prices vary depending on how many days you plan to attend. Sales will benefit the Cayuga County Arts Council and its projects.

Doubledays hosting trip to Toronto

The Auburn Doubledays will lead an outing to the Rogers Centre in Toronto on Sept. 29, to see the Blue Jays take on the Tampa Bay Devil Rays.

Attendees will also have the chance to see their favorite Doubleday honored on the field during the annual Webster Awards.

Past winners include Vito Chiaravalloti, Ryan Patterson and Scott Campbell. The $99 cost includes field-level seats for the 1:05 p.m. game and bus transportation.

Youth Super Sports offered at YMCA

The Auburn YMCA-WEIU is offering a learn-by-playing Youth Super Sports Basketball program for boys and girls ages 3 to 5 and 6 to 7 beginning the week of Sept. 10.

Super Sports Indoor Soccer for Y-Rookies (ages 3 to 5) meets Saturday morning between 10 and 11 a.m. and ages 6 to 7 meet from 9 to 10 a.m.

The program fee is $20 for Y members and $40 for the general public.

Individuals interest in becoming a Y-Youth Super Sports coach may pick up a coaching application packet at the YMCA membership desk.

Coaching experience is not necessary.

Wells offering youth swimming lessons

Registration for the Wells College Community Swim Program from 6 to 7 p.m. on Sept. 5 and 6 at the Schwartz Athletic Center.

For Wells College faculty or alumni, the cost is $35 for one child, $30 for the second and $25 for the third.

For the general public, the cost is $40 for one child, $35 for the second and $30 for the third.

The program will run at night on Mondays and Wednesdays.

Grandparents class begins Sept. 10

The Auburn YMCA-WEIU is offering a seven-week Grandparents and Me class starting Sept. 10.

Classes will be held on Mondays from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Participants will be able to spend some time with their grandchild and get some exercise.

There will be a half hour in the gym, a half hour in the pool and a half hour lunch.

Parents are welcome too.

ForeSIGHT golf tourney is Sept. 10

The annual ForeSIGHT Golf Classic will be held Monday, Sept. 10 at Foxfire at Village Green in Baldwinsville.

This year's tournament will include a tribute to the late Worth Dalton, a blind golfer who had been a guest at the classic for several years.

Proceeds of the tournament will benefit Aurora of CNY.

Entry fees will include greens fees, a cart, lunch, a banquet dinner, prizes, raffles and giveaways.
