After working under three titles this year, Christopher J. DeProspero resigned as treasurer of Auburn on Friday.
He did not give notice, leaving staff members scrambling to cover the position, city manager Mark Palesh said.
DeProspero did not give a reason, he added. He quit Friday afternoon and left the same day. DeProspero was hired at Cuddy Financial on William Street.
Calls to DeProspero's home were not answered.
The women working in the treasurer's office and Comptroller Lisa Green will pick up the slack until Palesh hires find a replacement.
"We opened it up internally last time and we hired someone we thought was a good fit," Palesh said.
DeProspero replaced Marie Nellenbeck when she quit late in the summer.
