Returning to Auburn
On Monday, Sept. 11, alumnae Sister Miriam Claire Kowal, OSBM of the first graduating class of SS. Peter and Paul School in 1948, visited her alma mater.
She is a former Auburnian and parishioner of SS. Peter and Paul Church, and she was recently elected General Superior of the Sisters of Saint Basil the Great and will be stationed in Rome. She was elected by nuns representing Providences from Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Croatia, Hungary, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Ukraine and the United States during the ninth General Chapter, held in Rome July 9 through 23.
The students and faculty/staff greeted her with the traditional Ukrainian greeting of bread, the very essence of life and a symbol of Jesus who is the source of our lives. Also she was given salt, which is a necessity for life. It never loses its taste and preserves and flavors food.
