Would somebody please fix the “Road Work Ahead” sign on North Street between the Arterial and Dill Street that is upside down. It looks really stupid.
Great job, Mike, in the primary. The Citizen said you needed at least 65 percent and you did better than that.

How pitiful is it that less than 1,500 people felt it necessary to vote in the Democratic primary? It just goes to show how much Katie and Chuck have run that grand ole party into the ground.

Do you think our wealthy New York senator, Hillary Clinton, really “gets it” that low income, uncovered workers do not buy insurance now because they simply cannot afford it? If the government is going to mandate them to buy it, this will only oppress low income earners more unless the cost of insurance is made easily affordable for people in that income range.

Thanks to everyone who turned out to support Quill in the primary, can't wait for the general.

Once again neocons are trying to rewrite history. It took a Democratic president to end World War II in four years.

New Yorkers are very lucky they have Congressman James Walsh, who knows more than all the generals, sergeants and privates in Iraq.

If we had today's Republicans around during World War II, the entire world would be joining Hitler in the invasion of the United States. If we had Bush around during Word War II, our president would have been convicted as a war criminal already.

It's time to investigate Cayuga County tax-crazy legislators. Putting a few behind bars might slow them down.

The 3 to 11 staff on One North at Auburn Memorial Hospital would like to wish Officer Oughterson a speedy recovery. He has helped us out many, many times and we wish him well.

At Friday night's football game, they showed all the empty seats on the left side of the stadium. Why didn't the cameras show the cheerleaders, who worked so hard to be out there to cheer our team on?

When a politician leaves his leaflets in front of my mailbox in the town of Owasco, he doesn't get my vote.

Wannabees should serve their country before wearing Marine Corps shirts and caps.

What a big plus for downtown Auburn to have a new veterans memorial park.

Why isn't there a better write-up about the high school band who just won first place? You should be very proud of them.

I think if we have another Republican in office, nobody is going to speak to it anyway.

Time Warner, why don't you check your volume on some of your stations. Channel 2 and 4 are not very loud, and other stations are very loud.

I would like thank St. Alphonsus and Sacred Heart for their summer picnics they had for their parishioners. Everyone had a wonderful time and they should do more things like this for the people.

A few years ago the Cato Town Board went out of its way to help the very, very financially strapped Cato Fire Department, but for some strange reason the Meridian Fire Department requests help, and the answer is no. Have to wonder what's going on behind closed doors?

The construction on Genesee Street is frustrating enough, but the road crew should know how to direct traffic before they try. They just stand there and expect vehicles to know which lane to use.

The politicians that don't want a casino here, vote them out of office election day.

I sure hope our new superintendent is sensible enough to issue snow days when they're needed, as Plume cared more about the attendance rate than the safety and health of the students and teachers.

" 6 kids beating the snot out of another kid, regardless of race, is assault and very possibly attempted murder (the police must have felt they had enough supporting evidence to make that charge) -- such an action is much, much more serious than an insulting, racist GESTURE, i.e. placing nooses in a tree. Each action has had an appropriate response: The intolerably rude and insulting behavior of the students who put the nooses in the tree was addressed with suspension from school. The violent crime of ganging up to assault and possibly kill a single young person was addressed with arrest and the charges of assault and attempted murder. The responses absolutely fit the crimes. The rest is window dressing bs from those two social manipulators with agendas of their own -- Sharpton and Jackson -- stirring up issues out of nothing, getting people riled up and feeling "righteous." Both those blow-hards, but esp. Sharpton, have long histories of this kind of behavior -- we do remember that Tawana Brawley scam back 15 or 20 years ago? Al and Jesse haven't had enough media attention lately, or any new outrage to pull the African-American community together in the "victim" persona these two hucksters have built for them against perceived injustices in a long time. Just what they needed! An incident to blow all out of proportion and get people screaming in the cameras and linking their names to famous Civil Rights leaders of the past. An opportunity to make their mark on history! But it is all a huge tempest in a teapot and a skewed view of reality to bend it to their own personal/political agendas and nothing more. Here I sit right now not 2 blocks from Detroit proper, where they are screaming hysterically and trying to make out that they are part of something as historically significant as the real Civil Rights movement of my childhood. Sorry, kids, you were born too late for that and this isn't even an echo of the other -- it's just a shadow on the wall of the cave, and a shadow created almost of whole cloth by manipulators of crowd behavior for their own grandisement. " Plume left Auburn last July, not a few years ago. And it's rather hard for kids to be "cautious" when they have to wait every morning for a bus that will be 5 - 25 minutes late when the roads are extremely icy and the wind chill is fifteen below. And I should mention that those kids are properly bundled up - it's the ones who drive that don't wear winter clothes. Maybe all the naysaying adults ought to go wait at a bus stop with some elementary, middle, or high school kids and see how they like it. Most students have expressed that they'd rather have more snow days and give up some vacation time in summer. They could give up the February break. Since we live in such a snowbelt, it's only common sense to add more snow days. Only an apathetic idiot would be against having snow days when we really need them (about 1 - 3 times in winter). "

" IMUS,comedians or rappers have never held a general standard of decency and boundaries !!! I do think that this town is mostly racist and full of hate on both sides!-its absurb to me that in 2007 they would have a barbershop not willing to cut a black mans hair! This is something that should have begun in the courts ages ago under discrimination laws. Since the details keep changing-both sides should be hate crimes! A noose in a white tree is no different than a swastika on a jewish door! I believe Jackson knew about the noose the day it happened! If these black kids are willing to fight back they came from parents that are willing to fight-a parent would have sent something to Jackson!! Again, there should have been some intervention before this got to where it is and hopefully NOW before someone gets killed! I hope this march doesn't turn violent, it would runi it's purpose! Personally I am for the MAX on EVERY broken law no matter who it is! I think our justice system has run amuck. I want Joe Arpaio, called the toughest sheriff in the West. Maricopa County,AZ for PRESIDENT!!! "

The "race card" is in play any time someone uses the issue of race to benefit their position or defend their actions, and is used in such a way to construe that someone is being racist. Yes, the noose thing was wrong, in bad taste and decidedly racist. Does the one kid deserve to be beaten by six? I don't think so, but thats just my opinion. "

" cm, are you saying that the 6 kids whompin' on that white kid were committing a hate crime?! I can't believe you would think that; I'm going to assume that I'm reading you wrong. If that was a hate crime, then EVERY INCIDENT which occurred between the white/black citizens should be called the same. Not only that, but this whole incident would never have gotten publicity at all if it were not picked up by some students and travel out on the web, so Sharpton and Jackson probably didn't even hear of it back then on "noose day". I'm not defending them idiots. I think what you're missing in my argument is this--yes, I know the law concerning "weapons". And yes, Imus was treated harshly. But MY point is that, first, if a white student had beaten a black kid with that shoe, it is UNLIKELY in THAT town (where they STILL had a so-called "White Tree"!) that THAT KID would NOT have been charged so harshly! And as for the parallel to Imus--Imus said what he did on NATIONAL radio, and so was transgressing against a much more widely-held and general standard of decency and boundaries which exists across the nation and all the regions in which his show was heard, so the outrage that resulted in his demise could be expected. Had he been only a local commentator down there in this small area of Louisiana, I'll bet that you and I would never even have heard of it. That's the difference--there seems to be a festering racist slant down there and the proof of it is the lopsided degrees to which the separate parties were treated in this case. "

" ok--the ropes hanging from the tree was SO wrong! Those 3 kids deserved more than 3 days suspension! But the black kids did not have to return with violence-fight it in legal ways-civil court. I cannot stand Sharpton or Jackson for they are only in it for publicity! Where were they on rope day?? I do think if it was 6 white kids against 1 black kid it would have been called a hate crime! Sharpton & Jackson would have been all over that like sauce on pasta! The school should have taken a better stance too with all the fighting-called a general meeting of the town?! SOMETHING! instead of letting things keep escalating! AS for a white not getting harsh treatment-IMUS not a kid-nearly 40 yr on the radio let something slip was fired -ridiculed across the nation even if he DID apologize! Jackson wants revenge to the fullest against whites yet we are to forget in 1984, he referred to Jews as "Hymies" . Should the 6 be charged with attempted murder -NO-but it is a hate crime! If a fight is not one on one then its more a gang-type fight! interesting stats at http://www.fbi.gov/ucr/hc2005/index.html "

" CV because your choice is to send your children to a catholic school because the Auburn School District doesn't offer them an excellant education is fine, but because you pay school taxes, property taxes etc. why should the school district pick up the tab to bus them to a nondistrict school? If St. Peter and Paul ( a tax exempt church) pays the Auburn School District for the busing service then fine you get a return on your school taxes, if not then don't ----- you wanted your children to get an excellant education. I guess the Auburn School District doesn't offer that, but they do have bus service. "

" Actually, there is too much reactionary jumping-to-tierd-old-conclusions on this "Jena Six" matter--while I agree WHOLEHEARTEDLY with both Chris and DD about the nature of Sharpton and Jackson, I did some research, and I urge you guys to do some yourself. First, the "bad joke" started with a DECIDEDLY RACIST slant--the "nooses" were indefensible(remember, we're in the "Old South" here guys, where memories of lynchings are still fresh) The white kids were suspended for 3 days. Tensions rose between Blacks and White in the town--the Black kids started fights in school, and black kids were beat up at school parties. Then, a white person pointed a gun at three black kids at a convenient store. THOSE kids wrestled the gun away from the guy and ran off. NOBODY WAS YET CHARGED. Only when a bunch of Black student beat up another white kid did he get charged as an adult with the DA promising to go for the most severe sentence possible! Now what is truly disturbing is that the kid was charged with a "conspiracy"--because OTHER kids took the opportunity to kick the white kid while he was on the ground, therefore the tortured "reasoning" which added an aggravating circumstance to his sentence. Secondarily, a TENNIS SHOE was classified as a "deadly weapon"! I mean, COME ON! It is undoubtedly and ABSOLUTELY true that if the shoe was on the other foot--pardon the pun--a white kid would NOT have been charged as harshly. Therefore, I agree that there IS INDEED a "racist" element to this verdict and this case. Now, I did my research; let's hear you guys defend YOUR claim that a white kid would have been charged the same way. "

" Why is it that when Sharpton or Jackson get involved, no person of color is judged for their actions. They turn it around to what the white man made them do? "They were protecting themselves" because some ropes were hung from trees. Insulting? Yes it is insulting that in this day and age people are still making gestures of racial intollerence towards each other, but it doesn't mean that violence should come into play. The ropes were hung from the trees several months prior to the beating, so crimes of passion can't come into play. They (the black teens) were thugs. Plain and simple, common thugs. One was a supposed honor role student--smart enough to excell in school, but not smart enough to know right from wrong? I think they knew that they couldn't lose by beating this guy because it would make the news as them taking care of a racist southern boy. What if a group of white guys beat a black man? It would not matter the reason, Al and Jessie would be there having a parade. I am so sick of this--I have many friends of color--many colors, and I don't believe that for a minute that I am a racist, so sorry if this comes out as if I am. I'm just mad that the two laziest, life sucking, pieces of trash are gaining notoriety and wealth through the exploitation of their own people--Al and Jessie. "

When Black people misbehave, according to race baiters like Sharpton & Jackson, they didn’t know what they were doing: they’re a result of their socio-economic environment, etc... It seems to me that people like Al, Jesse and the rest act like Black people aren’t capable of knowing right and wrong therefore it always ends up being racism. If I were Black, I would be insulted. These 6 students were responsible for their own actions, it shouldn't matter the color of their skin. "

Case in point, the Duke case. When the Duke Lacrosse players were arrested for the heinous crimes against a black woman, the press had it on the front page, with Sharpton and Jackson leading the charge. "RACISM", screamed Sharpton. We demand "JUSTICE" Now they are screaming the same thing only this time it is because a black man was arrested. He is not screaming RACISM against his people. He is not preaching tolerance. He is not preaching forgiveness. He is screaming that the judicial system is racist against the black man. Talk about having your cake and eat it too. Al Sharpton, and Jesse Jackson need to look in the mirror is they want to see RACISM. Because they both would have been screaming for immediate arrest of the white youths had this act been committed against a black man. Plain and simple. I wonder if they are going to demand that the police officer be fired for doing their job, like they did to Imus, because after all racism is racism isn't it?
