Skaneateles truck traffic very noisy, dangerous

Thursday, September 20, 2007 10:17 AM EDT

To Sen. John DeFrancisco: I assume you live on a lovely, quiet, safe, residential street, which I would be grateful for.
But I live in Skaneateles, on a lovely residential street named East Lake Road (also Route 41) along the Skaneateles Lake.

Every 24 hours, seven days a week, 70 18-wheel tractor trailers roar by my home and the hundreds of others on this street.

Imagine this on your street - no tranquillity, to say nothing of the noise, the fumes and the sheer danger.

I know there have been gestures and motions to get this changed and corrected for years, and it's the same old bloviating, and nothing is done.

What will it take?

A mother and her four children pulling out of their driveway, and they all get killed?

With the blood on the hands of you and the other legislators, because they did have the ability to correct this? Just imagine these trucks roaring by your house - think about it!

By merely enacting legislation to have these trucks use Highways 81 and 90 - as posted on both interstate highways - it could be prevented.

Plus, a spill from just one truck into pristine Skaneateles Lake would be catastrophic.

We all implore you to get it done before we have a tragedy that will never be forgotten due to the ineptness of our legislative officials.

" Robert--quit being such a drama queen. The blood on the hands of the legislators.......waaaaaaaah. Are you one with a for sale sign in your yard? Just trying to protect your interests in making your neighborhood quiet? Tell the mother driving her kids that it is illegal to back out of a driveway into traffic, and she'd be much safer driving out of her driveway to avoid trucks. PS--I live on the same road you do, and I don't ever remember 70 trucks a day on rt 41. Exageration you drama momma. "

" That mother and her four children that Mr. Mc Entee mentions that might get hit backing out of her driveway, could just as easily get hit by a local underage drunk driver or she could be out in a boat on your lake and get hit by a drunk driving a boat. I'd would rather take my chances with a truck driver that knows what he's doing than some drunk. "

" Maybe the government will build a loop road to re-route traffic around your precious property. Live with it or move. I think the highway was there before you moved in. Just what are you expecting the government to do? "

" I agree forrest. When these trucks don't have to pay taxes to that are used to pave the roads or are limited to the hours they can drive then maybe they can take the longer routes and toll roads. Men, women and children get killed on the interstate in crashes also, are we going to ban them from there also? I guess when you live on east lake road you lose touch with the common man trying to make a living. "

" They are public roads, the trucking companies pay taxes, if you don't like it move, whats so hard about that, I'll bet you don't complain when the trucks are using other roads. Just don't use your road. "
