Red Cross to
celebrate volunteers
The board of directors of the Cayuga County Chapter of the American Red Cross invite all past, present and future Red Cross volunteers to attend the annual Volunteer Celebration and Dessert Buffet from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 26, in the Great Hall of Westminster Presbyterian Church, 17 William St., Auburn. The awards ceremony and chapter's annual meeting will begin at 7:30 p.m. There will be a dessert buffet featuring treats made by the board.
This event is free and open to the public. RSVPs are appreciated by today.

Church offering Kid's Breakfast
The Episcopal Church of SS. Peter and John is now offering a Kid's Breakfast every Sunday at 8:30 a.m. at the church, 169 Genesee St., Auburn.
The meal includes cereal, mixed fruit, raisins, bananas, juice and more.

Booster club to hold barbecue
Trinity United Church of Christ will host a chicken barbecue at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 22, at the church, 163 Cayuga St., Union Springs. The barbecue, sponsored by the Union Springs Lions Club, will benefit the Union Springs Booster Club.
A chicken dinner will cost $4 and a full dinner of chicken, salt potatoes, baked beans and a roll will cost $6. For more information, call 252-5707.

The First United Methodist Church of Weedsport is sponsoring a lasagna supper from 4:30 p.m. until sold out Saturday, Sept. 22, at the church, 2744 E. Brutus St., Weedsport.
Pasta dinner at UNC for CYO programs
A pasta dinner to benefit the SS. Peter & Paul Church's CYO programs will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 27 at the Ukrainian National Club, 125 Washington St., Auburn.
Dinner includes pasta and meatballs, salad, bread and butter, dessert, coffee and soda. Prices are $6 for adults and $4 for children 10 and younger. Dinners can be eaten at the club or taken out. For more information, call 252-5567.
Nature center hosts apple cider pressing
Visitors are invited to help in creating apple cider the old-fashioned way, using a people-powered fruit press from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 13, at the Sterling Nature Center, 15730 Jensvold Road, Sterling. Attendees will help, wash, grind, press, pasteurize and best of all taste fresh apple cider.
While going through this process, the center will discuss the history of apples, apple products, the apple growing industry and the many different varieties of apples.
New this year, visitors may taste test more than a dozen different varieties of apples grown by local orchards and vote for their favorite.
