Auburn swim wins back-and-forth meet against Oswego

Mallorie Dygert won the 100 freestyle (58.18) and the 50 freestyle (26.29) as the Auburn girls swim team fought off Oswego to remain undefeated, winning 100-80 in a back-and-forth meet.
Auburn trailed at the halfway point but won crucial events down the stretch to seal the victory.

“This was an outstanding team effort,” Auburn coach Tom Clary said. “The whole team came through.”

Kelsey Roe finished first in the 100 backstroke (1:04.71) and the 100 butterfly (1:06.01). Ashley King took first in the 200 free (2:10.32).

Kiersten Salemi, Laura Iwanicki, Roe and Tiffany Kline won the 200 medley relay (2:02.25) and Kara Cunningham, King, Roe and Dygert won the 400 free relay (3:59.36). Iwanicki, King, Salemi and Dygert barely lost in the 200 free relay (1:47.51).

Salemi was second in the 200 IM (2:30.74) while Makenzie Hauger finished fourth with a personal best 2:36.19.

Michaela Elliott had a personal best with a 1:12.66 in the 100 butterfly while Cunningham had a personal best 58.18 with a third-place finish in the 50 free.

King was second in the 500 free (5:51.15) and Iwanicki was second in the 100 breaststroke.

Auburn (4-0) hosts Henninger Friday.

Dryden 106, Southern Springs 63

Erin Weber finished first in the 100 backstroke (1:15.45) and Kaitlin Rejman was second (1:17.8).

Irene Weber, Kathryn Carter, Carly Pearson and Bethany Ortquist came in second in the 200 medley relay (2:13.3) while Carter, Pearson, Stephanie Morse and Rebekah Ortquist was second in the 200 free relay (1:57.4).

Carter finished second in the 100 breaststroke (1:22.18), Rebekah Ortquist was second in the 200 IM (2:44.85) and Pearson was second in the 100 butterfly (1:14.94).

Southern Springs host Odessa Montour Thursday.

BOYS GOLF

Auburn 202, Fayetteville-Manlius 204

Ryan May shot a 38, Sean Hogan carded a 40, Anthony Siracusa shot a 40, Steve Dec had a 41, Bob Dushatinski turned in a 43, Tim Daniels shot a 44, Frank Murtari shot a 46 and James Cutillo shot a 46.

The Maroons (6-2 overall, 6-0 in league) hosts Nottingham today.

BOYS SOCCER

Cato-Meridian 8, Solvay 1

Ivan Rojo had three goals and one assist and Rosalio Rojo had two goals and two assists to lead the Blue Devils.

Also playing well was Dom Giacolone (one goal), Brandon Rubadou (one goal, two assists) and Tyler Rice (one goal).

Cato-Meridian travels to Phoenix Saturday.

GIRLS SOCCER

Auburn 2, Utica Proctor 0

Laura Taylor scored both Auburn goals while Virginia Porten (five saves) recorded the shutout.

Also playing well for the Maroons was Marissa Rescott, Marissa Slayton and Jen Fox.

Auburn (6-0) host Liverpool Thursday.

Cazenovia 9, Jordan-Elbridge 0

Sarah Fordyce had 11 saves in goal.

The Eagles host Marcellus Thursday.

Union Springs 1, Marathon 0

Alyssa Dean had the lone goal for the Wolves while Deven Gary finished with seven saves for her fourth shutout of the season.

The Wolves played well defensively and were led by Danielle Lyndaker, Annie O'Hara and Monica Sacco.

Union Springs is 6-1 overall and 4-1 in the division. The Wolves host Lansing Friday.

BOYS CROSS COUNTRY

Waverly 27, Lansing 29, Moravia Inc., Marathon Inc.

Jason Phillips won the race with a time of 19:05.

Adam Wiethuechter finished in 26:16.

The Blue Devils (0-5) compete at the Auburn Invitational Saturday.

Newark Valley 27, Southern Springs 47, Watkins Glen 77, Candor 100

Evan Bassett finished second (18:13), Alex Schmitt was fifth (18:48), Matt Cuff was 11th (19:33), Corey Field finished 14th (19:45) and Marshall Greer was 15th (19:46).

Southern Springs is now 3-3.

GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY

Waverly 20, Marathon 35, Moravia Inc., Lansing Inc.

Alicia McLaughlin finished second (24:22), Jessica Higgins was ninth (27:04), Claire Hunsinger finished 10th (27:05) and Helen Hunsinger was 16th (30:21).

The Blue Devils (0-3) compete at the Auburn Invitational Saturday.

Newark Valley 20, Southern Springs 55, Watkins Glen 62, Candor 100

Southern Springs was led by Michelle Wilmot was seventh (23:09), Mary Miller was eighth (23:26), Meg Rindfleisch was 15th (23:36), Jessica Lepianka was 16th (25:48) and Casey Emmett finished 20th (26:55).

Southern Springs is now 3-3.

FIELD HOCKEY

Cicero-North Syracuse 2, Weedsport 0

Kaitlin Hammersley had 11 saves for the Warriors.

Weedsport (7-1 overall, 4-0 in league) host Cazenovia Thursday.

Moravia 3, Southern Springs 0

Emily Lockett scored three goals for the Blue Devils while Kelley Lloyd had two assists and Emily Dusseau had one.

Ashley Shea had nine saves for Moravia while Southern Springs' Michelle Slayton had nine saves.

Moravia (4-3) led in shots 9-8 while Southern Springs led in penalty corners 7-6.

Moravia JV won 4-0.

VOLLEYBALL

Groton 3, Union Springs 0

The Wolves were beat 23-25, 20-25 and 23-25.

Leading Union Springs was Jamie Pearce (three aces, eight service points, one assist, two kills), Kelly Pinckney (six service points, one assist, three kills), Stephanie Huber (nine service points, two assists) and Kim Huber (five service points, three assists, one kill).

Union Springs JV won 3-0.

The Wolves host South Seneca Saturday.

Utica Proctor 3, Auburn 0

The Maroons lost 19-25, 12-25 and 9-25.

Leading the Maroons was Nicole Bozek (three aces, one kill), Katie Brown (one ace, two kills, one block), Meg Cahill (two assists), Emily Felter (two kills), Kaylee Hamberger (one kill), Erica Querns (four assists) and Danielle Ryan (two aces).

Auburn travels to Corcoran Thursday.
