High lift on water tower catches fire
A high lift at the village of Union Springs' water tower was totaled after catching on fire on Tuesday, firefighters said.

The high lift was being used by paint crews painting the structure, firefighters said. No one was injured.

It is believed that the fire was started by a leak in the hydraulic line.

Fulton hospital using green IVs

Fulton's A.L. Lee Memorial Hospital is doing its part to help the environment with a “green” set of intravenous containers.

The pharmacy recently began using the VisIV bags that are recyclable and have less packaging than standard containers. The bags reduce waste by up to 70 percent, Pharmacy Director Koth Cassavaugh said in a press release.

“Most of our patients receive some form of IV therapy,” he said.

Unlike standard intravenous bags, the VisIV design does not include any plastic overwrap. Statistics indicate that nationwide hospitals use more than 1.4 million IVs each year, making the recyclable feature equally important, according to the press release.
