The Cayuga County Republican Committee will have its biannual meeting and select a candidate for the vacant District 3 legislature seat Wednesday.
The committee will select officers for the next two years beginning 6:30 p.m. at the Ukrainian National Club, Auburn. Following the committee elections, members from District 3, which includes the towns of Mentz, Montezuma and Throop, will select a candidate.

The county Democratic Committee also plans to select a candidate before the Sept. 25 deadline, Chairwoman Katie Lacey said Monday.

The winner of November's election will replace Bernard Smith, a Republican legislator who died Aug. 18. Smith's term expires in 2010.
