JORDAN - A game that featured more than its fair share of stoppages of play came to an early end on Friday night.
The Jordan-Elbridge football team was leading rival Skaneateles 13-6 when lightning was spotted with 7:14 remaining in the third quarter.

After a 45-minute delay the game was rescheduled for 3:30 p.m. today in Jordan.

The Eagles drudged through a combined six turnovers by both teams to take an early 7-0 lead. Jordan-Elbridge's Justin Duger intercepted a Thomas Schooner pass near the end of the first quarter to set up a 17-yard Joe Poppe run.

Poppe scored on a nearly-broken play. Quarterback James Hohm seemed to pitch it to Poppe at the last minute, and the senior bounced outside for the score.

The Lakers weren't deterred. Lexus Johnson gave Skaneateles good field position at the Jordan-Elbridge 37 after the ensuing kickoff. The Lakers put together several short spurts before Matt Wood punched it in from eight yards out. However, Alexander Richichi's kick was wide, keeping the Eagles up by one.

After penalties and turnovers overwhelmed both teams in the second quarter, Jordan-Elbridge started off the third in the black, as a Poppe 51-yard run set up a Cameron Hemler one-yard scoot. Hemler's extra point was wide.

The Lakers appeared to put together a strong drive to counter, as Brandon Forgham and Schooner had 18- and 21-yard dashes, respectively. But an illegal motion penalty gave Skaneateles a second-and-14 that it couldn't recover from (the Lakers had amassed 50 yards in penalties).

Poppe had a four-yard run on the Eagles next possession before the game was called. Jordan-Elbridge will start with a second-and-6 from its own 29.

Poppe was leading all rushers with 84 yards, while Hemler added 21. Wood paced the Lakers with 70 yards on the ground and Schooner pitched in with 39.

Hohm completed three passes for 49 yards for the Eagles.
