Cayuga County Sheriff David Gould will open a substation at the Cato Municipal Building next month.
Village and town officials will join in the official opening at 11 a.m. Oct. 1. The substation at the Cato village municipal building, 2564 Millard Ave., just off of Route 34 will cover the northern half of the county.
Deputies will use a desk and computer in the offices while the village works on a $175,000 grant to add space, Mayor Carl Lincoln said.
Gould opened a substation at the Moravia Justice Center earlier this year. He created plans to reopen the substations while campaigning for sheriff last year, stating that the stations were underutilized.
The substations will shorten distances and response times as well as provide a closer point of contact for the Sheriff's department, Gould has said.
