Cayuga Wine Trail to welcome in fall
Three wineries along the Cayuga Lake Wine Trail will hold special events this month
€ Knapp Vineyards will put on its Harvest Hoopla starting Saturday through Sept. 30, at the winery, 2770 County Road, Romulus. Visitors during this time, will get to view the winery at its peak harvest season to learn and watch how wine is made and taste the grapes before they become wine. € Lucas Vineyards will hold a German Festival from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 16, at the winery, 3862 County Road 150, Interlaken. The day's events include live German bands and dancers, grape stomping, grape pies, German food, a Polka contest and costumes. The event will be held rain or shine. Local farmers markets still open
The Port Byron farmers market is open from 4 to 7 p.m. every Wednesday through today at Schasel Park on Route 31, Port Byron. The market features local vendors, wineries, weekly chicken barbecues, monthly entertainment and bake sales.
The Auburn farmers market is open from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday through Tuesday, Oct. 30, on Genesee Street between South Street and Loop Road. In addition to fruit and vegetables, the market features honey, cheeses, buffalo meat, fresh breads, cookies and whoopie pies.
The Moravia farmers market is open from noon to 6 p.m. every Thursday through Oct. 25 in the Kinney Drugs parking lot, 130 Main St., Moravia. The market features fruit, vegetables, buffalo meat, honey, baked goods and samples from area wineries.
Cornell doctor to discuss eating
Dr. Brian Wansink, author of the book “Mindless Eating” and director of the Cornell University Food and Brand Lab, will discuss his research on eating behavior and will offer strategies for “mindlessly eating better” at the Fit Kids conference from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, Sept. 21, at the Holiday Inn, 75 North St., Auburn.
This program is sponsored by Finger Lakes regional nutrition programs of Cornell Cooperative Extension.

Red Cross to celebrate volunteers
The Board of Directors of the Cayuga County Chapter of the American Red Cross invite all past, present and future Red Cross volunteers to attend the annual Volunteer Celebration and Dessert Buffet from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 27, in the Great Hall of Westminster Presbyterian Church, 17 William St., Auburn. The awards ceremony and chapter's annual meeting will begin at 7:30 p.m. There will be a dessert buffet featuring treats made by the board.
This event is free and open to the public. RSVPs are appreciated by Wednesday, Sept. 19.
