Rarely Done Productions lives up to its name with its opening show, “The Musical of Musicals (The Musical),” a backhanded tribute to the Broadway shows of Rogers and Hammerstein, Sondheim, Kander and Ebb, Jerry Herman and others. Auburn Public Theater welcomes back Heather MacKenzie-Chaplet and her character PerPlex this weekend. PerPlex combines music, dance, video and costumes as PerPlex reacts to the world around her. Musical accompaniment is provided by the Nils Nusens Viking Funk Band. The shows are at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, at APT, 108 Genesee St., downtown Auburn. “Les Liaisons Dangereuses” (Dangerous Liaisons) opens the 35th season for Syracuse Stage Sept. 26 through Oct. 14. Don't fret over the title, Christopher Hampton's script is in English.
Salt City Center for the Performing Arts kicks off its season with the premiere production of Pat Lotito's new play, “Michael and Elizabeth, Vivian and Pete.” The show opens at Jazz Central Sept. 28. Call

A new organization based in Fulton is hosting region-wide auditions at two locations this month. CNY Theatre Source will hold auditions for performers from 5 to 8 p.m. Sept. 14, at Port City Theater, W. 4th and Mohawk St., in the West Baptist Church in Oswego and from 1 to 5 p.m. Sept. 15, at the Redhouse, 201 West St., Syracuse. Performers are asked to prepare a one minute comedic and one minute dramatic monologue, and may also prepare 16 bars of music that demonstrates their range. There will be no accompaniment. Two copies of a headshot and resume are required. Appointments are necessary. To make an appointment, call 598-8812 or e-mail portcitytheatre.org.
Bob Moss, the retiring artistic director at Syracuse Stage, will help select Hangar Theatre's 2008 summer season as the interim AD at the Ithaca playhouse. Moss was the theater's AD for 15 seasons prior to his move to Syracuse. He returns to help the organization search for a new, permanent artistic director and to plan next season's productions.
