FREEPORT - A delicatessen customer attacked a cook with a knife and stole money from a cash register before running away, police said.
But the robber, who lives around the corner from the deli, surrendered a few hours after the Saturday morning stickup, Nassau County police said.
The man entered the Classic Valentinos Deli around 6:30 a.m. and ordered food, police said. Soon after he jumped the cook with an 8-inch kitchen knife, causing a small puncture wound to his chest, they said.
The cook shoved away the man, who then opened the cash register, grabbed about $100 and left, police said.
The robber turned himself in at a police station five hours later, police said. He was being charged with first-degree robbery.
