Serving residents of city a great honor

Saturday, September 8, 2007 11:26 PM EDT

With a heavy heart, I wish to announce that I have reluctantly submitted notice to the city of Auburn that I will be leaving the position of planning and economic development program manager.
It has been a privilege to serve the residents, citizens and taxpayers of this city of 15 years.

My activities with the city during this time have allowed me to become familiar with many talented, committed and dedicated business owners and managers.

I am most grateful for the trust and confidence they have given me. It has truly been an honor to witness the courage and determination, compassion and drive of our private sector leaders. It has been very satisfying to help local businesses to compete and cope in this local and state business environment of high costs and high taxes.

My passion for keeping, growing and incubating new businesses has facilitated numerous personal and professional relationships with individuals who are the backbone of this economy.

It is my greatest wish that the mayor and his supporters on city council are able to put the resources in place to attract thousands of high-paying jobs to the city of Auburn. I also hope that they are willing to support the existing businesses that currently employ so many.

Thank you for the opportunity to serve.

Cynthia S. Aikman

" The comment on this story is indicative of a person who is resentful of a well qualified City employee who has done a good job for the City because she was well compensated. It is important to remember that appreciation goes a long way. When that is missing we lose good employees regardless of the monetary rewards. Ms Aikman doesn't need good luck. It is the City that needs the good luck to find as competant and dedicated an employee to replace her. "

" This "letter to the editor" demonstrates an egotistical person who is unwilling to truly test her "talents" in another venue when asked to.Instead of listing her many "successes" in her work as economic planning director, she is crying about resigning because she was asked to use her talents in a different situation. It wasn't as if she was terminted for crying out loud.Instead of really being a team player, she resigns "with a heavy heart." Her sarcastic "wish" that the mayor & council attract thousands of high paying jobs to the city only further illustrates her "my way or no way" attitude. Her numerous personal & professional relationships should assist her in easily finding another position that will pay her the $67,800 with all the benefits she has enjoyed with this city. Good luck Ms. Aikman. "
