Maroon girls swim, tennis teams earn victories

SYRACUSE - Claire Minnoe, Delaney Scollan and Hailey Roth defeated their opponents in consecutive singles matches by 6-0, 6-0 scores to lead the Auburn High School girls tennis team to a 7-0 win over Nottingham on Thursday.
Emily Mastropietro and Katie Searing won first doubles (6-4, 6-2), Palak Patel and Aiswarya Irri took second doubles (6-0, 6-4), Kara Mariano and Amy Farinelli won third doubles (6-1, 6-3), while Sam Bruno and Jamie Bruno swept fourth doubles (6-1, 6-0).

The Maroons (3-0) head to Central Square on Monday.

GIRLS SWIMMING

Auburn 92, Rome Free Academy 85

In the Maroons' first meet of the season, Mallorie Dygert, Laura Iwanicki, Kelsey Roe and Robyn Clary won the first event, the 200 medley relay (2:06.37).

Auburn took the first three spots in the second event, the 200 freestyle, led off with Ashley King (2:09.78) followed by Kiersten Salemi (2:14.81) and Tracy Miller (2:20.14). Roe won the 200 IM (2:32.93), Dygert took the 50 freestyle (26.66) and Salemi won the 100 freestyle (1:01.02).

Seventh grader Michaela Elliot won the 100 butterfly (1:12.84) in her first time swimming the event and also became the first Maroon swimmer to qualify for sectionals. Elliot's classmate, Makenzie Hauger placed second in the 100 breast stroke (1:19.18), also qualifying for sectionals in her first time swimming the event. Kara Cunningham placed second in the 500 freestyle (6:04.91) for her personal best time.

The 200 freestyle relay team of Salemi, Erin Savino, Miller and King took first place (1:54.30). The Maroons swam exhibition in the remaining events.

Auburn (1-0) hosts its relays on Saturday.

VOLLEYBALL

Odessa-Montour 3, Southern Cayuga 2

After losing the first match, the Chiefs gained momentum only to lose 25-23, 24-26, 22-25, 25-23, 25-11.

Carissa Wheeler led the Chiefs with 24 service points and Rebecca Shurtleff had 20 service points.

Baldwinsville 3, Auburn 0

Emily Felcher had two kills, one block and one ace in the 7-25, 13-25, 5-25 loss for the Maroons.

Laura Barnard had two aces and Erica Querns recorded a block and an assist.

Elmira Thomas Edison 3, Union Springs 0

Kelly Pinckney scored two aces, two assists, one kill and three digs for Union Springs in the 11-25, 22-25, 23-25 loss.

Stephanie Huber had one ace, one assist, one kill and three digs. Jolene Hoskins had an ace, three kills and four digs and Jamie Pearce chipped in with three aces and two digs.

Union Springs (0-3) hosts Moravia on Tuesday.

BOYS SOCCER

Henninger 2, Auburn 1

Auburn captains Dylan Warter and Craig Hunter (assist) combined on the only score for the Maroons in their first league game since 2005.
