POUGHKEEPSIE - Fire at an oil storage facility near the Poughkeepsie train section shut down Amtrak rail service between New York City and Albany and disrupted local commuter rails Wednesday.
The fire started inside a large fuel tank near tracks along the Hudson River at about 11:30 a.m.
The fire was out shortly after 1:30 p.m., said city police Lt. David Bennett.
The Metro-North commuter railroad used buses to shuttle commuters between Beacon and the two stops north of the fire - New Hamburg and Poughkeepsie - from about noon until 3:45 p.m.
Amtrak service between Albany and New York's Penn Station was suspended. Officials said they expected it to be restored by 4 p.m.
Metro-North spokeswoman Marjorie Anders said passengers on two southbound Amtrak trains were unloaded at Poughkeepsie, bused to Beacon and taken to New York City on commuter trains.
