AUBURN - Luke Cardenas isn't fighting city hall; he's fighting to be a part of city hall. Cardenas, who had filed petitions to run for City Council as an independent, filed a lawsuit Thursday seeking to overturn the nullification of his nomination petitions. “I'm not going to quit,” he said. His suit has two main concerns. The first, he claims he was not told of the specific challenges to his petitions before county elections commissioners ruled his petitions invalid. The second part of his lawsuit says that after the commissioners' ruling, they simply told him the general outcome. They did not give him specifics on what signatures were invalidated or why. He said that deprived him of his chance to explain or appeal their decisions.

AUBURN - A group of Owasco residents plans to create a monument in Emerson Park to honor victims of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, the county Public Works Committee learned Wednesday. Beverly Scott first brought the idea to the county's Planning Committee in August. The monument would be dedicated during “Come Home to Cayuga,” a sort of old home days being planned for the third weekend in June.
