ALBANY - The Labor Day weekend was marred by violence in cities across upstate as a series of shootings killed one man and wounded five others.
A shooting outside a Buffalo grocery store early Sunday morning left one man dead and another critically injured.
Homicide investigators there think a dispute inside a food store spilled outside and led to the shooting just before 1 a.m.
They gave no other details.
Police were not releasing the dead man's name until his family can be notified.
The second victim, Walter Stevenson, 42, of Buffalo, was in critical condition in Erie County Medical Center with a gunshot wound in the back, police said.
Also in Buffalo, a man was shot while sitting on an East Amherst Street porch Monday morning, police said.
Anthony Douglas, 30, was in critical condition at Erie County Medical Center and police investigating the attack did not immediately have a motive.
Meanwhile, police in Rochester are investigating a shooting early Monday morning that put a man in the hospital with a gunshot wound to the head.
Police did not identify the man, who they said was riding in a car when he was shot. An anti-violence patrol of eight police cars had been assigned to the area and officers quickly arrested two men, including one they said was running from the scene of the shooting carrying a revolver.
The victim was brought taken to Strong Memorial Hospital, where his condition was considered serious, police said.
On Monday afternoon, a man was shot on South Beach Street in Syracuse, police said.
Police said the victim is in his late 20s and he was taken to University Hospital. They did not release his name or give a motive for the shooting and his condition was not immediately available.
In Elmira, a man suffered minor injuries after being shot in the back early Sunday morning.
Police there said George Wilson, 33, was treated and released from a local hospital after he was shot near the corner of West Water and Davis streets. No arrests had been made in that shooting, police said.
