AUBURN - It's not often that a team spends seven innings trying to overcome a strikeout, but at Falcon Park on Sunday, that's what the scenario was for the Auburn Doubledays.

After both teams spent three innings not allowing any hits, Jamestown right fielder Bryan Peterson struck out swinging on a Marc Rzepczynski pitch in the fourth, but catcher Chris Haupt dropped the strike and recovered to make the throw to Manny Rodriguez at first base for the seemingly routine out.
Rodriguez, however, missed the throw and the ball rolled into the right field corner. As Shawn Scobee hustled to retrieve the throw, Peterson made his way around the bases to score on the unusual play.
The Doubledays' offense, who only gathered four hits, waited until the bottom of the 10th to get the one that won them their sixth straight game, 2-1.
Adam Calderone, who came in to pinch hit for Rodriguez, walked in second baseman Steve Condotta to tie the game in the sixth. Jammers' righty Andrew Alsup walked two batters after starting pitcher Rafael Galbizo allowed two hits to start the inning. Alsup got his first blown save of the year in 2-3 innings of work.
Jamestown, who managed five hits, had three of them after the tying run scored.
The Doubledays had two, but needed only one. CJ Ebarb, the hero of the last Doubledays' extra innings game three nights prior, lead off the 10th with a walk. Carlos Vasquez laid down a sacrifice bunt to put Ebarb on second with no outs when Baron Frost came to the plate.
Frost, who had struck out three times in his first four appearances, neatly hit a line drive to center field to score the winning run.
The Jammers had two opportunities to send Frost back to dugout when he popped up in foul territory around home plate, but Jammers catcher Jameson Smith and pitcher AJ Battisto dropped or missed both balls.
The Pinckney Division champs are now 7-0 against the Jammers, but the teams face off later this week in the final three games of the regular season in Jamestown.
Michael Barbara, the fifth and final pitcher for the Doubledays, upped his record to 2-0 after pitching the last 1 2-3 innings. He inherited a bases-loaded, one-out situation in the ninth and got out of it by striking out his first two batters swinging.
Battisto dropped his record to 3-3 after going 1 1-3 innings.
Auburn (45-26) finishes their regular season on the road, first at State College (32-37) for two games this week. As tickets go on sale today, the Doubledays will be home for part of the playoffs, which start on Sunday.
Brooklyn (44-23) is the only other New York-Penn League team to have clinched a postseason birth, after doing so on Sunday.
