I would hope the city union workers would voice a strong opposition to the plan to buy a fleet of hybrid vehicles from Japanese or Korean manufactures. Buy American - there are many fine hybrids at Ford or Saturn dealerships.
As an Owasco and Cayuga County taxpayer, I want to know more about the investigations that are going on.

Instead of making stories out of old records, I would like to see if Sgt. DiVietro and Detective Burger could come up with the truth, no matter who it leads to in the Julie Monson murder.

I am also disappointed that the marching band does not play at football games anymore. Not everyone can make it to a competition to see them perform, so maybe they should at least consider performing at one game per football season and give the citizens of Auburn two things (the team and the band) to be proud of.

I called the street department on Aug. 30 at 3:30 p.m. for street sweeper due to all the dirt and stones on my road, and on Aug. 30 at 4:30 p.m. a street cleaner was there and my street was being cleaned. Thank you for such a positive, wonderful response, street department and the City of Auburn.

If Mr. Palesh wants to continue to beautify Auburn why doesn't he come down Orchard Street, get after the slum lords and get rid of the slum areas. Then Auburn will really be beautiful because more people go to the Post Office than go to Hoopes Park.

Many people today have a misconception about what it means to be disabled. A disabled person is a person who is limited in one or more life functions - a dead person is definitely disabled but a disabled person is not dead.

Residents are already taxed to the limit. My sewage bill was almost three times my water usage, auto gasoline prices are consistently the highest around and yet, we are discussing turf again?

Instead of collecting the funds owed by other municipalities, the Auburn bureaucracies have covered their own incompetence by passing a law that will only hurt Auburns' poorest citizens. Absentee landlords that don't pay water bills will not suffer nearly as much or as immediately as their helpless tenants.

Parents need to teach youngsters not to play around uninvited on private property, as it is really unfair to a property owner to expose him to this added liability and force him to put up fences all over the place, which many cannot afford. As kids, most of us do not understand these things unless a parent takes the time to sit us down and explain boundaries.

Hope Cato Town Board plans on lowering or eliminating taxes for Meridian and area residents to pay for added costs of fire insurance (fire coverage within proximity of homes) caused by closing Meridian Fire Department. All because some of the board members have a personal vendetta against certain people?

Why can't America's bureaucrats get it through their heads that they work for the people, not the other way around? A week and a half ago I notified some county and City of Auburn bureaucrats of a very dangerous situation on the North end of Rockefeller Road and leaves and branches completely blocking a four-way stop sign on the corner of Logan and Janet Streets but nothing has been done to possibly save some lives at either location.

" Why don't you get out there and cut some branches so motorists can see the stop sign? Are you dead or disabled? "

" And while you are at it, ask the mayor to remove poverty and crime. "

" How do you suggest the mayor get rid of the slum areas? By twitching his nose? If a property is not a health code violation and has no tenants then he can't remove a property because it is not up to your standards. Being run down does not give a mayor the right to remove it. If you feel so strong then why don't you buy the property and fix it up? "

" The city worker didnt cut the trees on Rockefelller Rd. because he was buying with the street sweeper clearing rocks that day! There is only so much ONE person can do in an 8hr day! "

" Article "man on a mission" on Mike Murray was much better than grandma on drugs! ALAS! something worth reading-I heard one of Special Olympic kids living nearby is also going to China-maybe the Citizen can do an article on him/her too! "
