When you know the facts, you'll want to vote for Quill

Sunday, September 2, 2007 10:55 PM EDT

It's that time of year again. Fall is right around the corner, school is starting and the primaries. Yes, it ‘stime to think about elections.
Who's running? Do you know anything about who is running for mayor? I do. Mike Quill has been a friend to me for 35 years, the reason being his wife, Joan has been my best friend for 50 years. Mike has always been a devoted family man. He's a hard working man who loves this community. He wants to see a better community as we all do.

As far as I'm concerned Mike Quill should be the one you vote for. Please take the time and learn about the candidates that are running. Teamwork, integrity and honesty play a key role in my decision.

That's why I'm voting for Mike Quill. Please vote on Primary Day, Sept. 18, and vote for Mike Quill.

" Get your facts straight. Jim Lattimore is the mayors cousin and is an assistant chief. The contract the union negotiated only affects firemen up to the rank of captain. Assistant chiefs have thier own union. Lattimore had no reason to abstain! Ask someone who knows! maybe then you be able to see through all the BS Tim puts out there. "

" Yes, his retirement was already in the works. Then,he decided to make a political issue of it by saying he was leaving because the mayor criticized him.And he is running for mayor because of his dislike for the mayor-not for any altruistic reason of wanting to better Auburn. "

" OMG Are you confused? I am! You say Quill "quit" because of the Mayor and then you say his retirement was already in the works. Actually the second is correct, although I'm sure it was an added bonus not having to deal with the Mayor anymore. As far as the Fire Contract goes, read the article Quill wrote in todays paper. It explains the fire contract, his part in it, and who voted for it. That would be the city manager, and the council. We voters aren't as dumb as you seem to think. We really are aware that Fire Chief Quills requests to hire new firemen were agreed to by the council AFTER he retired. Why do you think that happened? Could it have been motivated by politics? As usual, at the expense of the people of Auburn! "

" The facts are: Mike Quill claimed the firefighter agreement to be a "fair agreement."He knew very well the impact of this gift to the firefighters. The city of Auburn cannot afford him as mayor looking out only for his friends. Mike Quill calls "quitting" his "retirement." What will he do the next time he faces some heat if he's elected mayor? Quit again? Mike Quill in his "speaking out" letter states that the mayor shirked his duties by abstaining from the vote on the contract. The contract had a very real effect on his cousin-Quill knows that but he would rather sling mud at the mayor bringing up the petty fight again about the mayor voting last.Like a little kid he "quits" saying it was because the mayor said things he didn't like. Grow up Mike Quill. Your retirement was already in the works. That is a FACT.You are running for all the wrong reasons. You are running because like a little kid who has a tantrum because someone questioned what they wanted, you want to get back at the mayor. You have no interest or care for the betterment of Auburn, its' employees or any of the citizens. "
