Clever, nice people really make a great day
Each Monday, The Citizen features someone from the Finger Lakes community.
This week, we spotlight Beverly Scarbrough, owner of Canal Country Store.
Q. What is the most rewarding part of your job?
A. I dearly love meeting people and seeing how clever the people are who bring things in here on consignment.
Q. What is the most challenging aspect of your job?
A. My computer program; it doesn't speak my language.
Q. What would be your dream job, and in what part of the world would you be working?
A. I'm here. This is something I've wanted to do for more than 30 years. And in Weedsport.
Q. What's the best way to relax after a tough day?
A. Go home and sit down with my dog and have a cup of hot tea.
Q. What do you like most about living and/or working in the Finger Lakes region?
A. It's always been my home. I never lived outside of Cayuga County. The people (here) are wonderful.
Q. If you had the choice of meeting any three people in the world, who would they be and why?
A. Dwight Eisenhower, because outside of the fact that he was a five-star general, I remember him being a strong leader and for the most part he was a good person. He and Winston Churchill, who I'd also like to meet, structured a world that lasted us a long time.
Q. Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
A. Hopefully still doing this as an old crotchety lady.
Q. If you were to win the lottery tomorrow, what's the first thing you'd do?
A. Probably to make sure my children were secure after making sure I was secure.
Q. What would people who think they know you be most surprised to find out about you?
A. I'm pretty much an open book.
Q. If you were mayor or supervisor, what's the first thing you'd change?
A. I don't know if I would change anything. But I would somehow find a way to get traffic slowed down on (North Seneca) Street. I'm not against truck drivers, but it's a very narrow road for all the traffic it has.
