SYRACUSE - About 30 to 40 teenagers and young adults were hurt in the mosh pit during a rock concert at the State Fair on Tuesday night, with 10 to 15 taken to Syracuse hospitals, authorities said.

Two people were hospitalized for broken arms and a third for a broken leg, said David Corey, training supervisor for Rural/Metro Ambulance and head of the fair infirmary.

Most were treated for scrapes, bruises and other pit-related minor injuries, he said.

“They were crowd surfing, and this big guy kicked me in the head,” said Stephennie Nichols, 13, of Mannsville, from an infirmary bed.

Crowd surfing refers to leaping atop the crowd in front of the stage, getting passed overhead and sometimes dropped.

“Traditionally, we have a few people to see, but this is unusual,” he said. “It was pandemonium; lots of loud music and bodies slamming around.”

The Projekt Revolution concert was an all-day, two-stage affair headlined by Linkin Park, My Chemical Romance and Taking Back Sunday.
