Weedsport tax levy should decrease

Taxpayers in the Weedsport Central School District may see a few extra dollars in their pockets this year.

The district is projecting the 2007-2008 tax levy to decrease from $6,227,372, approved by voters in May, to $6,147,375, a change of 1.35 percent. The district is pointing to staffing changes - and a subtraction of $80,000 from the overall budget of $16,387,015 - as a reason for the decrease.

Also, several townships within district lines - the Village of Weedsport and the Town of Brutus - underwent revaluation, leading to a more equitable distribution of the funds and a lower tax bill.
