Greg Downing recorded his first career hat trick but the Los Angeles Riptide fell 16-13 to the Philadelphia Barrage in the NB Zip Major League Lacrosse championship game on Saturday at Paetec Park in Rochester.
The Auburn native led the Riptide in scoring.
Matt Striebel earned most valuable player honors after scoring three goals and three assists for the Barrage who won the league title for the second straight season.
Downing's first goal of the postseason tied the score 6-6 at the 10:17 mark of the second quarter.
Downing's third goal closed the Riptide to within one goal late in the game but the Barrage scored the final three goals of the game to pull out the victory.
