Americans are being taxed and getting nothing back

Monday, August 27, 2007 11:28 AM EDT

“No taxation without representation.” That being the case, why are citizens of the good ol' USA being taxed? Government, for years on end, has not been representative of the mass majority of its citizens. Yet its citizens are being taxed unmercifully.
There's that sales tax that keeps rising every year and it's on almost every item bought, even most foods. Then there's that almost 20 percent or more tax on earnings, even on low income earners. Tax on Social Security earnings are even more outrageous. By the end of the year, wage earners have shelled out almost half of their earnings on taxes. And what do we get in return? That's right - nothing!

Who cares about U.S.A. citizens? Certainly not the government. It's bad enough they are not representatives of us. It's worse in that they put limitations on our earnings. What gives them the right to do that? And why is it so important to government that low wage earners and others on Social Security have their earnings kept at a minimum? Government at present is a total disgrace and anyone who thinks it isn't, needs a reality check.

“Let's keep government small” is what present government constantly reiterates. In other words, “people business is not their business.” Well, if that's the case, why is the government expecting its citizens to constantly fork over tax money for nothing whatsoever in return? Certainly there's lots of unsatisfied customers who don't believe in paying for services not rendered. Why should they?

“Give me your tax money and take a hike” is a pretty realistic evaluation of present day government. Last year, New York cut its Earned Income Credit 90 percent without even making tax preparers aware of it. This year the present do-nothings running the country not only tried to take Social Security away from future retirees, they have also been helping themselves to that money already in it for their reckless spending. Government - what a disgusting disgrace.

" PLEASE BREW--it doesn't matter who is president--there will ALWAYS be TAXES!And the prices will ALWAYS go UP! My dad would talk about how he couldnt afford to buy a NEW car for 1000.00--then the taxes went up and the water bill was 13.00!! If there has been a Republican president ONLY from 1920-now-then you could have something concrete to nail one PARTY/PERSON. "

" The republican administration is the cause of higher taxes. Spending on the war and unfunded mandates such as no child left behind and cuts in Federal assistance are the cause. When the state has funds cut by the Feds they pass it down to the local budgets. The problems all start with Bush end with Bush. Isn't it an irony that the republicans are the cause of increased taxes? "

" Government should use taxes the way a business uses profits. You find the most efficient way to do things. In my day job we do something called "kaizan" which is a system of continuous improvement in quality, technology, processes, company culture, productivity, safety and leadership. With a more efficient process, the company makes more...wages rise and our profit sharing goes up. Too bad the government, regardless of party, finds it much too easy to spend other peoples money on non-essential things i.e. pork projects (and I don't consider Iraq or the general WOT non-essential). And Karl, you would be well served to listen to Mark Twain with regard to people thinking you are a fool. "

" I have heard my grandparents complain about taxes--I have heard my parents complain about taxes-and now I at times complain about taxes! the FACTS are even if there was no war --which there wasn't when I grew up--everyone will STILL complain about TAXES! Since we're going to complain anyway about taxes no matter the reason--lets take the time to mail a soldier some beef jerky in a Thank-You Card!!!! "

" Puhleeeze Mr Van Coulter; the taxes are being WASTED on this damn war, and you know it--that's WHY there's leaa and less money for EVERYTHING! IMPEACH! IMPEACH! IMPEACH! "

" I agree with Murray that taxes are getting way to high--yet I agree with chris van that the monies are being used for many areas that DO benefit us. However, in all of these areas there is alot of wasted costs! My local paper (not Auburn) just did cost evaluations for the same kinds of medical treatments at different hospitals--some of the amounts were 20-30 thousand dollars higher for the same care! And thats just medical !! Now add in all of chris van's roads-police-etc!!! "

" We will make a deal with you. You pay no taxes and we deport you to Iraq. Is it a deal? I'll even take up a collection for your air fare. "

" Once again Mr. Lynch is long on rhetoric and short on facts. God forbid Pres. Bush tries to do something with regard to Social Security to keep it solvent, not take it away. The annual report from the Social Security Trustees says the projected Social Security shortfall over the next 75 years is about $3.7 trillion, not some small change by any account. He wanted to give people a choice, the Social Security system generates about a 3 percent return. A worker with a private savings account whose investments exceed a 3 percent return would be better off under the Bush plan. But a worker who experienced returns of less than 3 percent would have less retirement money than he or she would under the current system. I would be up to the individual to make that decsion. So, Mr. Lynch, you get nothing back? No road improvements, no police and fire protection, no public schools, no welfare benefits, no Head Start classes, no Medicaid or Medicare, no military, just to name a few. Mark Twain said something that you should take to heart Mr. Lynch: "It is better to keep your mouth closed and let people think you are a fool than to open it and remove all doubt." "
