After running from police and hiding for more than two weeks, Keith E. Titus was arrested Saturday. The Auburn man drove a truck that crashed into a tree and sent himself and three other people to the hospital, where he eluded police and left from a side door, police have said.
The Auburn Police Department arrested Titus Saturday in Syracuse and he was transported back to Auburn. He was arraigned and moved to the Cayuga County Jail Sunday, police said.
The 27-year-old was wanted on charges of second-degree vehicular assault and driving while under the influence. The DWI charge is a felony because of his previous offenses.
On Aug. 8, Titus was driving a work truck when it collided with a tree on South Lewis Street. The impact injured Titus and his three passengers.
Richard J. Walters, 37, of Auburn, Reginald Townsend, 35, of Auburn, and James Hobby, 28, were in the 1999 Chevrolet Crew Cab.
Police pointed to speed and alcohol as contributing factors in the collision.
