DeFurio dreams of one day working as a producer
Each Monday, The
Citizen features someone from the Finger Lakes
community.
This week, we spotlight Tom DeFurio of Advantage Auto.
Q. What is the most rewarding part of your job?
A. It started slow when I came here, but I'm getting a rapport with customers and gaining new business.
Q. What is the most challenging aspect of your job?
A. It goes hand-in-hand with the rewards; trying to get new business built up. I've worked in auto parts for six years and that's the easy part.
Q. What would be your dream job, and in what part of the world would you be working?
A. Working in radio. I did some telecommunications in college, so something to do with music. Probably as a producer working in North Carolina or California.
Q. What's the best way to relax after a tough day?
A. Go home and listen to music or go out and play basketball. That's what calms me down.
Q. What do you like most about the Finger Lakes?
A. I like the summers here. The weather's decent. Not so much the winters though.
Q. If you had the choice of meeting any three people in the world who would they be, and why?
A. Jessica Alba, because she's talented, pretty and outgoing. Rasheed Wallace, because he's my favorite basketball player and he seems like a down-to-earth guy. And Samuel L. Jackson, because he also seems funny and outgoing.
Q. Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
A. Probably not in New York state. Probably North Carolina, doing something more corporate.
Q. If you were to win the lottery tomorrow, what#'s the first thing you'd do?
A. Pay off my debts, help out my family and buy something nice for myself.
Q. What would people who think they know you be most surprised to find out about you?
A. I know it's a cliche, but I wear my emotions on my sleeve. I don't have any surprises.
Q. If you were mayor or supervisor of your town/city, what#'s the first thing you'd change?
A. I'd definitely look to build places in the community for kids to play. There are not a lot of places to get off the street.
Q. Do you have any special plans for the next few months?
A. I'm taking a break from working in September and going down to the Poconos.
