Swim Owasco to start on Labor Day
Dive into Owasco Lake on Labor Day for the annual Swim Owasco one-mile swim from Indian Cove to Cascade. Entry forms are available in Auburn at the YMCA, the Tourist Office and Emerson Park; in Moravia at the Modern Market, Granny's Gas Station, New Creations Hair Salon; and Cascade on Owasco at the South Shore Marina and Cascade Grill. The deadline to register for the swim is Friday, Aug. 31. The swim is not a race and is open to all ages. There will be a pancake breakfast awaiting participants at the Cascade Grill, and all will receive a commemorative T-shirt.
Hoopes Park to host movie night
Jim Loperfido of the Auburn Cinefile Society announces that the movie “Paper Clips” will be shown tonight at Hoopes Park at dusk, or around 8:30 p.m. This movie was cancelled Tuesday, due to the weather. Those attending should bring chairs or blankets for seating.
County marijuana growing sites raided
The state Police and Cayuga County Sheriff's Department joined forces Monday to find marijuana growing sites.
Authorities confiscated 141 marijuana plants from various places around the Cayuga County.
The joint team used a New York State Police helicopter to fly over 20 suspected areas for growing the illegal plant. According to a press release, marijuana plants were found in several of the suspected locations.
When the authorities located the plants from the helicopter, officers on the ground were sent to the sites to take the plants.
They are continuing to investigate the owners of the plants. At that point, the owners will face charges regarding the growing and possession of marijuana.
Polish Falcons Lanes changes owners
The Polish Falcons Lanes has a new owner.
An offer from Gary and Linda Feldman of Auburn to purchase the bowling and bar business at 75 Pulaski St. was accepted by Polish Falcons Nest 74 on Wednesday.
The bowling alley will be known as Falcon Lanes. Michelle Feldman, a professional bowler who recently participated in the United States Women's Open, was named general manager. Steve Spinney was named bowling manager.
