There was a large crowd of immigrants to step off the train this morning, including Italians, Russians and Netherlanders. Ed Purser who happened to be at the station, acted as emigration officer, made the different nationalities understand his directions as to where to go to their destinations. Purser was recommended to fill the position permanently.

Cayuga County Farm Bureau now ranks 11th in the state with a total of 2,188 members registered. Ten years ago there were only 884 members. The previous all time high was in 1919 when the membership totaled 2,180.

SENECA FALLS - In an effort to draw inspiration for their struggle against injustice, almost 200 Catholic nuns gathered in Seneca Falls to pray, sing and tour the village's monuments to women's history. The sisters are taking part in the annual Leadership Conference of Women Religious in Rochester. The organization represents 94 percent of Catholic sisters in America.

AUBURN - Smoking in restaurants and other public places in Cayuga County may soon be restricted, under a plan being considered by the Cayuga County Legislature.
The county's Board of Health adopted a proposal at its meeting Tuesday that would force restaurants and bars that serve food to limit the areas where patrons could light up.
